True 365nm UV vs “regular” UV, the difference is obvious

I’ve seen a lot of posts here where people say “UV is UV,” so I wanted to share a side-by-side that helped it finally click for me.

Same samples, same setup.
Left: UV without a ZWB2 filter.
Right: UV with a ZWB2 filter (this was taken with an Ultrafire RUV3).

Without the filter, there’s a lot of visible blue spill washing everything out. With proper filtering, the fluorescence pops much harder and details are way easier to separate from the background. The rocks themselves didn’t change ,,the signal-to-noise did. This also explains why some “395nm” or unfiltered lights feel underwhelming for mineral or forensic-style work. You’re not missing power, you’re missing spectral control. True 365nm + proper filtering seems to matter more than raw output.

Finally, a 365nm UV light that doesn’t blind you with purple junk light

I’ve had a couple other 365nm flashlights before, and they all throw out way too much visible purple glow. It washes everything out and makes fluorescent stuff look kinda meh. This UltraFire RUV3 with the black ZWB2 filter is totally different—no real purple spill at all. The beam is clean, and minerals, yooperlites, and even pet stains just light up way brighter and sharper. Scorpions pop out like neon signs at night. Way better than my old ones.
It feels solid, battery lasts plenty long enough for a night out hunting rocks, and it showed up in about a week. If you’re into this stuff and tired of crappy filtered lights, this one’s legit.

Finally Found a UV Light That Actually Shows What I Need

I picked up the UltraFire RUV3 because I’ve been dealing with small, itchy bumps on my hands and wanted a true 365nm light to check my skin more clearly. I’ve bought a few “UV flashlights” before, but most of them were more blue than UV and barely showed anything.

This one is completely different.

The ZWB2 filter makes a huge difference — instead of flooding everything with white/blue light, it gives a clean, pure 365nm beam. When I shine it on my skin, the texture and tiny bumps pop out instantly (you can see in the photos). With my older UV lights, I could barely tell anything was there.

It helped me confirm what I was looking for, and it’s now something I use regularly.

If you need a true UV flashlight for checking skin, scorpions, minerals, cleaning, whatever — the RUV3 is absolutely worth it. Clearer output, no visible light washout, and way more effective than the cheap ones online.

Highly recommended.

Great Tool for My Job

I use this in my forensic work to check stains and IDs. Super clear UV beam, not all that extra purple junk most cheap lights have. Two brightness levels are handy, and it feels tough for something so small.
