Four tips for choosing Tactical Flashlight

Flashlight Purpose
Tactical flashlights are incredibly versatile. They can be used by hand to blind would be assailants from harming you in a self-defense scenario, giving you the time to strike them and get away.

Many tactical flashlights have a strobe feature that will disorient attackers and provide an even more effective method of self-defense. They’re also incredibly useful mounted on the side of a firearm to help illuminate targets in a low light environment.

The main difference between the two models of tactical flashlights is the ergonomics. Hand use flashlights won’t have the mounting points that come with firearm flashlights, making them easier to hold in your hand. But in both styles, you’ll have a light that is durable and lightweight for easy use.

Budgeting Considerations
Since your flashlight will likely be the best first line of defense in a tactical scenario, try to purchase the best light that you can for your budget.

Lights that are made out of aluminum are pretty lightweight and are fairly durable. They are more affordable than titanium flashlights though, as titanium lights are much stronger in comparison. For that reason, titanium flashlights are often more expensive.

Brightness
After durability, it’s important to consider how bright the flashlight is before purchasing. Brightness is measured by a few different categories, but the most common one is by lumens. Lumens measure brightness so the rating that is advertised on your light will tell you exactly what to expect from it. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light is.

You’ll also want to consider the style of light that comes out of it. The two most common styles are spot and flood. Spotlights concentrate the majority of the lumens in one area, which will illuminate one area of focus really well. Flood lights are good for illuminating a wide area and spread the lumens out over a wider viewing field.

Power Source
Finally, batteries are the most common way that flashlights are powered, but the type of battery differs from light to light. Most flashlights are powered by either disposable alkaline or lithium batteries.

Alkaline batteries are inexpensive and easy to find practically everywhere. However, compared to disposable lithium batteries, they are not nearly as powerful or long lasting. The biggest downside to disposable lithium batteries is that they are much more expensive than alkaline batteries.
